A removable partial denture is a device which replaces all the missing teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A typical design is pictured below:

PROS:  Low cost. All missing lower or upper teeth are replaced with one device.
 
CONS:  A removable device is not completely stable and catches some food debris. The hardware can be uncomfortable, and requires constant removal and cleaning. 30% of patients who attempt to wear these devices are unsuccessful.
 
COST:  About $1800 per partial denture. Insurance typically covers half the cost. Thus, if seven teeth are missing from the lower jaw, all seven can be replaced with one device which costs the patient about $800-$900.  The better option, dental implants, cost about $3500 per tooth replaced.
